Surface mesh enhancement with geometric singularities identification

چکیده
A method for generating geometric surface meshes from a discrete surface, called a reference mesh, is presented. First, the geometrical singularities are extracted from the reference mesh. Then, an almost smooth surface interpolating the reference mesh vertices is associated to the reference mesh. Finally, the reference mesh is adaptively refined via the smooth geometry in order to obtain an adequate approximation of the underlying geometry. Some numerical examples are given to show the efficiency of our approach. The method can transform a mesh composed of linear elements to a mesh constituted by quadratic elements. 2005 Elsevier B.V. Identification of C1 and C2 discontinuities for surface meshes in CAD
In computer-aided design and meshing, it is often important to identify the discontinuities (singularities) in coarse surface meshes. Due to the potential low resolution and noise, it is challenging to detect such features. We propose systematic characterizations of the edges, corners, and curves at the singularities of a mesh and develop algorithms to identify these geometric features. Our alg...
متن کاملFeature-Preserving Reconstruction of Singular Surfaces
Reconstructing a surface mesh from a set of discrete point samples is a fundamental problem in geometric modeling. It becomes challenging in presence of ‘singularities’ such as boundaries, sharp features, and non-manifolds. A few of the current research in reconstruction have addressed handling some of these singularities, but a unified approach to handle them all is missing. In this paper we a...
متن کاملOn converting sets of tetrahedra to combinatorial and PL manifolds
We investigate the problem of removing singularities from a non-manifold tetrahedral mesh so as to convert it to a more exploitable manifold representation. Given the twofold combinatorial and geometrical nature of a 3D simplicial complex, we propose two conversion algorithms that, depending on the targeted application, modify either its connectivity only or both its connectivity and its geomet...
متن کاملMulti-scale geometric detail enhancement for time-varying surfaces
This paper presents a new multi-scale geometric detail enhancement approach for time-varying surfaces. We first develop an adaptive spatio-temporal bilateral filter, which produces temporally-coherent and feature-preserving multiscale representation for the time-varying surfaces. We then extract the geometric details from the time-varying surfaces, and enhance geometric details by exaggerating ...
متن کاملSingularities in Parametric Meshing
A parametric meshing technique is presented with special emphasis to singularities in the parametric mapping. Singularities are locations where the parametric mapping is highly distorted or even singular. In a NURBS context, this arises when control points are clustered into the same location in three dimensions. Limitations of parametric plane meshing in this context are highlighted, and zeroa...
